"El Second Weensdee: La Musica y Gente de San Benito" featuring songs of San Benito like "La Reina de San Benito" by Narciso Martinez, "El Corrido de Jacinto Trevino," "El Troquero," and "The Stonewall Jackson Blues" by Rosa Perez. Local musicians with strong ties to San Benito will perform these songs, like Los Patrulleros, Rumbo al Anacua with Rosa & Joe Perez, Carlos Canas and accordion instructor Juan Lugo and his students. Of course, there will be plenty of Freddy Fender music, too!

Also featuring "La Gente de San Benito," Hernan Wise, native of the city, has recorded over 300 "sobrenombres" used in the neighborhoods of the city. "Sobrenombres" are nicknames popularly given in Mexican tradition, and this Second Weensdee we will read out some well-known sobrenombres of local personalities.

July 11 is the Catholic feast day of St. Benedict or San Benito, so the City of San Benito will celebrate together with the Narciso Martinez Cultural Arts Center, the San Benito Museums Coalition and the San Benito Chamber of Commerce to produce this event. The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College Arts and Entertainment Series invites the public to the its 2007 season performances.

Rita Moreno is the only female performer to have won all four of the most prestigious show business awards: the Oscar, the Emmy, the Tony, and the Grammy. She has, in fact been listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for this achievement. She earned the Oscar for her performance as Anita in the 1962 motion picture, West Side Story, the two Emmys for her 1977 appearance on The Muppet Show, and for a dramatic guest appearance on The Rockford Files in 1978. She won the Tony for her 1975 triumph on Broadway as Googie Gomez in The Ritz, the Grammy for her 1972 performance on The Electric Company Album for children.

It may be said that Rita Moreno, who has portrayed an Irish teacher, an Italian widow, a reformed prostitute, a lady evangelist, an English lady, and a southern belle, has broken the rigid role of Latino stereotyping.
